High School Science Teacher  

Position Overview

The Science Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging, and student-centered instruction across four levels of high school science in addition to GED Math and GED Science preparation.

This role requires a highly effective educator capable of managing multiple course preparations, differentiating instruction across varied academic levels, and accelerating student learning for both diploma-bound and GED-track students. Instruction shoul
integrate scientific reasoning, applied mathematics, and real-world workforce connections, preparing students for postsecondary success in both college and skilled trades pathways. Will report to and work with the Assistant Principal daily.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction & Planning

Multi-Level Curriculum Delivery

Plan and deliver instruction across:
  • Four levels of high school science (e.g., Integrated Physics & Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, etc.)
  • GED Science
  • GED Math
Design vertically aligned lessons that build foundational knowledge while advancing higher-level skills
Manage multiple course preps effectively while maintaining instructional quality

Curriculum Planning

Develop and implement TEKS-aligned science instruction and GED-aligned math/science curriculum
Submit timely, high-quality lesson plans that reflect intentional design and alignment

Lesson Design & Structure

Deliver structured lessons that include:

Do Now

Ensure all lessons are aligned to clear, measurable objectives
Prioritize application, analysis, and problem-solving


Academic Rigor

Maintain high expectations across all course levels
Incorporate:

   o Scientific inquiry and experimentation
      
o Data analysis and interpretation

   o Mathematical reasoning within science contexts

Student Engagement

Use hands-on, relevant strategies such as:
   
o Lab-based learning

 o Real-world applications tied to trades (construction, welding, manufacturing)
 o Visual models and interactive activities
Ensure all students can access content regardless of starting level

Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction

Conduct frequent checks for understanding across all course levels
Use:

  o GED practice tests
  o Internal assessments
   
o Classroom data 
to adjust instruction and group students strategically
Differentiate for:

  o Below-grade-level learners
    
o ELLs

  o Students with IEPs

3. GED & Postsecondary Readiness

Prepare students for successful completion of:
  o GED Science Exam

  o GED Mathematical Reasoning Exam
Build core competencies in:

  o Graph and data interpretation
  o Problem-solving and quantitative reasoning
Connect instruction to:

  o Workforce applications
  o Postsecondary pathways


Qualifications

Bachelors degree required (Science, STEM, or related field strongly preferred)
Teaching certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 24 months)

Experience teaching multiple preps and/or GED content preferred
Strong ability to differentiate instruction across varied academic levels
